Growth meant both promise and pressure for logistics provider Makt-Trans. With its own fleet delivering reliability and care, and a fast-moving brokerage arm opening doors to new business, the company was gaining ground in every direction.
CEO Drew Smith and his team were committed to providing their signature dependable service to both long-standing customers and new ones. But as every new account brought added complexity, Drew understood that Makt-Trans’ internal processes were straining his lean team:
Drew faced a clear choice: hire to absorb the clerical load, or streamline the work. He knew that hiring carries costs beyond salary — recruiting, onboarding, and the risk of employee turnover — and doesn’t address the root cause: fragmented, manual steps that slow teams down.
That’s when he went searching for a partner that could work within their existing systems, preserve the way his reps already operate, and align with Makt-Trans’ long-term vision. Drew evaluated several other options, but after hearing Vooma’s CEO speak about their roadmap and reporting features, he felt confident enough to give the product a try.
"Manual order entry threatened our bottom line, but hiring wasn’t the answer. Vooma gave us leverage without changing how our reps work.”
Vooma quickly became the operational engine Makt-Trans needed to grow in a volatile market. The partnership began by rolling out Vooma Build on the order-entry side. Vooma Build automatically reads tenders from emails and attachments, maps stops, reference numbers, and appointment windows to the right fields, and presents a quick review step to approve and push live.
This immediately translated into more time for the Makt-Trans team to dedicate to high-value customer conversations, inspiring Drew to explore additional use cases for Vooma.
Vooma Quote was the natural next step, as centralizing pricing work enables the team to respond to customer inquiries more efficiently. Drew underscores the value of this, sharing that “a 50-lane list used to take 2 days to submit. Now we price and send in about 30 minutes.”
As Vooma Quote became an integral part of their workflow, Drew launched Auto-Quote for select accounts. It automatically sends quotes using preset guardrails and each customer’s preferred format. This means repeat, low-complexity spot lanes get fast, consistent replies — and reps stay focused on higher-complexity deals.
The Makt-Trans team has been particularly excited by Vooma’s user-friendly interface. By consolidating pricing context from tools like DAT and Triumph into one view, reps using the Vooma UX (or sidebar integration with Outlook) no longer bounce between systems.
From the beginning, Vooma has been a true partner, answering questions quickly and implementing tweaks to keep Makt-Trans’ momentum high — all while keeping the team agile. By Drew’s estimate, they’re saving at least $50,000 per year in added order-entry or account-support staffing — a number that will continue to rise with growth — while enabling their team to stay customer-focused.
“Vooma is a daily solution for us. It allows us to focus on our core tenets, especially being customer-focused and maintaining relationships.”
With Vooma’s tools in place, Makt-Trans transforms response speed and frees up valuable time for customer conversations. The team can continue providing the premium service they’re known for — while avoiding the cost and complexity of expanding headcount.
The results:
Looking ahead, Makt-Trans is excited to continue expanding use cases alongside Vooma’s evolving roadmap, further streamlining operations to elevate service.
"As we grow, we have to serve the customer we won yesterday just as well as the one we’re trying to win tomorrow. Vooma makes that possible.”
